Youth Advisory Panel

Posted on:   Posted by:

In May 2019 we recruited 14 young people to join our national youth advisory panel.

Most of our applications came from young people living in the south; we didn’t get as many applications as we hoped for from areas in the north.

Because we want young people from all over Wales in our panel, we’re giving young people who live in the north another chance to apply.

What do we do?

We promote and protect the rights and welfare of children and young people in Wales.

Who do we need?

We need up to 8 young people aged 11-18 to join the panel.

We ask that applicants have some previous experience of representing the views of other people and who are confident to share their ideas and opinions with others. We hope to have young people with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences on the panel.

A place on the panel lasts for two years

What will you do?

  • Work with Sally and her team to review the Commissioner’s work plan each year and provide her with new ideas and feedback.
  • Raise awareness of children’s rights and promote the work of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales with your family, carers, friends, school, college, networks and youth groups.

What’s in it for you?

You will gain new skills, new friends, and learn about the work of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales. You will have an opportunity to take part in meetings, influence her priority areas of work and have fun being part of an exciting group.

What do you have to do?

  • Take part in five whole day meetings over a two-year term – The meetings will be on Saturday October 5th (2019) and Tuesday February 18th (Half term 2020).
  • Keep in touch with us between meetings using email or social media.
  • There are optional extra opportunities to get involved in other work e.g. interviews, events or projects, if you choose to.
  • You will need to make your own way to meetings and extra opportunities (all reasonable travel expenses will be re-imbursed), if you are under 16 we will keep your parents/carers informed.

Please send the application form back to us by the closing date.

Closing date: 9:00am Monday 12th August 2019
