Sexual Health

Sexual health is more than deciding on birth control, and protecting yourself from sexually transmitted diseases, it’s about making positive choices for both you and your boyfriend or girlfriend.

Sexual health and learning how to look after yourself is important.  Anyone who has sex can be at risk of catching a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Some people don’t show any symptoms and there are serious consequences if infections are left untreated.  Its important you use condoms so you don’t end up catching an infection.

At the INFO Shop in Wrexham we work with young people aged between 11 and 26, part of the service we offer a sexual health service where young people can get free condoms and other forms of contraception.  It’s a confidential service, which means we won’t tell anyone unless we are worried about the young persons safety.  If you are unsure about the law around sex The Mix  have some great information for you to ready through.

If you are thinking about contraception and you are not sure what is available or which one is right for you Brook have a fantastic website that looks at the different methods of contraception  available and which one might be the right one for you.  The NHS have put a video together looking at contraception, it’s a bit long but it gives you a lot of information.

Sexual health isn’t just about contraception it’s also about body changes, things change as we get older and our body develops.  It can be tricky understanding what’s normal and what isn’t, if you are not sure check out Brook and the Family Planning Association (FPA).
