Second Voice Advocacy Service
Sometimes we all need help to get our voices heard. Advocacy is when someone else helps you to have your say, helping put right something that’s wrong, like making a complaint or putting your side of the story across in situations where you feel you are unable to. This might be in school, at home, in court – well anywhere really where having your say is important to you!
Second Voice is an advocacy project that has been set up to help make sure that when you need some help to explain or complain about things that are important to you, there is a trained advocate available to support you.
In Wrexham, Wales and elsewhere in the UK, children and young people have a right to make their views known and influence decisions that affect them. In many other parts of the world, children and young people do not have a voice.
Children’s Rights
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child – Article 12 states that children have the right to say what they think should happen, when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have their opinions taken into account.

An advocate is someone who will
- listen to you
- help you look at your options
- support you in making a decision
- support you have your say
An advocate will not
- judge you
- tell you what to do
- talk to anyone else without your permission
