Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week 5th – 11th February

This week it’s time to educate ourselves, support survivors, and empower individuals to speak up and seek help when needed.

Understanding the Issue

Sexual abuse and violence can take many forms, from unwanted touching and harassment to assault and rape. It knows no boundaries of age, gender, race, or sexual orientation. Its impacts ripple through communities, leaving survivors traumatised, often struggling with feelings of shame, guilt, and fear.

Why Awareness Matters

Awareness is the first step towards prevention and healing. By acknowledging the prevalence and severity of sexual abuse and violence, we can dismantle the stigma that surrounds it, create safer environments, and foster a culture of consent, respect, and support.

Empowering Young People

Young people are not only the future but also the driving force behind change in our society. It’s crucial to equip them with the knowledge and resources to recognise and respond to instances of sexual abuse and violence. Education about healthy relationships, consent, and boundaries is essential, as is providing avenues for seeking help and support.

How to Speak Up

If you or someone you know is experiencing sexual abuse or violence, it’s essential to know that you’re not alone, and there are people ready to support you. We encourage you not to suffer in silence and report it to the police by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.

If you need support with this you can come to the Info Shop, Lambpit Street, Wrexham. They provide a safe space where you can come and speak to a Youth Worker in private. They are there to listen without judgment and offer guidance and support.

For those more comfortable communicating online, you can email them – infoshop@wrexham.gov.uk – and they will respond during office hours.

You Are Not Alone

Remember, speaking up is not easy, but it is incredibly brave. You deserve to feel safe and supported, and there are people ready to stand by you every step of the way. Together, we can break the silence, challenge harmful attitudes, and create a world where sexual abuse and violence are not tolerated.

This Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, let’s reaffirm our commitment to building a society where nobody suffers in silence.

Join us in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and advocating for change.

Together, we can make a difference. #ITSNOTOK
