Pride is usually associated with rainbow flags, big colourful parades, and celebrations of LGBTQ+, but it’s much deeper than that. Pride began as a movement back in June 1970, for equality, dignity, and the right to live openly without fear of discrimination. It is a reminder of the progress that’s been made, but it’s still about recognising the challenges a lot of LGBTQ+ people still face today.
Pride is about community, solidarity, and creating spaces where everyone feels safe and accepted for who they are. It’s also an opportunity to amplify voices, raise awareness of ongoing issues, and ensure that support is available to those who need it. Whether someone is questioning their identity, seeking advice, supporting a friend or family member or looking for a sense of belonging, Pride is a reminder that no one should have to do it on their own. It’s about feeling safe to be yourself!
There are plenty of services available for young people aged 11-25 in Wrexham if you’re looking for advice, support, information, or someone to talk to.
Support for LGBTQ+ Young People in Wrexham
Sometimes it can feel a bit awkward talking about sexuality, gender identity and things like that, we get it! but there’s honestly nothing to be worried about. The INFO team work closely with Viva LGBT – LGBT Youth Cymru who offer youth groups, one-to-one support, advice and a welcoming space where young people can meet others, build confidence and access support without being judged. Support is available for young people up to the age of 25.
If you’d like to access VIVA but aren’t sure where to go or how to start, pop into the INFO Shop for a chat. Staff can talk through your options, answer any questions and help you make a referral if needed.
