World AIDS Day 2024: Break the Silence, End the Stigma

Posted on:   Posted by:

This World AIDS Day (01/12), let’s come together to break down barriers, raise awareness, and empower ourselves and others with the knowledge we need to protect our health. HIV testing is a simple and powerful step toward understanding our health status and supporting those who need it.

At the INFO Shop, we believe in accessible, stigma-free healthcare for everyone. That’s why we offer free, confidential HIV testing as part of our mission to promote health, dignity, and education for all. Whether you’re coming in for a test, picking up a red ribbon to show your support, or just learning more about HIV, we’re here for you.

Get Tested. Get Informed. Get Support.

Free HIV Testing

One of the most important steps in ending the stigma surrounding HIV is normalising testing.  Our drop-in service makes it easy and convenient to get tested – no appointments necessary. The process is quick, confidential, and free of charge. You’ll receive the support you need, without judgment.  Our nurses are here to provide this every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:00pm.  Or alternatively you can pop in Monday to Friday from 11:30am to pick up a test and post kit from one of our youth workers.

Pick Up a Red Ribbon

The red ribbon is a symbol of solidarity, compassion, and support for those living with HIV. Pick one up at the INFO Shop for FREE and wear it with pride to show your commitment to ending the stigma around HIV and raising awareness of HIV prevention and treatment.

Why Testing Matters:

  • Early Detection Saves Lives
Knowing your HIV status is the first step to taking control of your health. With early detection, people living with HIV can start treatment and live long, healthy lives. HIV is manageable with the right care, and it’s crucial that we reduce the fear and stigma around testing.
  • Stop the Spread
HIV testing not only helps individuals protect themselves but also protects their communities. Knowing your status helps reduce the spread of HIV by promoting safe practices and encouraging treatment options.
  • It’s Your Health, Your Right
We believe in creating an environment where everyone feels safe to access care and ask questions. Whether you’re getting tested for the first time or have been tested before, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Testing is a responsible and empowering action – don’t let fear or stigma stop you.
