On August 15th, 2024, we had an exciting visitor at the INFO Shop, none other than Lynne Neagle, the Cabinet Secretary for Education! She dropped by to check out the awesome work we do for young people in Wrexham, and it was a day full of inspiring moments.
Lynne got to meet with all the incredible services we offer at INFO, which are here just for you, the young people of Wrexham from age 11, right up to your 26th birthday!! From our Information and Advice youth workers to the Youth Homelessness Prevention Service, Second Voice Advocacy, in2change Drug and Alcohol Team, and Outside In Counselling – she saw it all. She even learned about our partnership with VIVA, which supports LGBTQ+ young people in Wrexham.
One of the highlights was when Lynne met Alex from VIVA. He shared how he uses INFO as a safe space where young people can drop in whenever they need support. It was clear she was impressed with how welcoming and comfortable INFO is for everyone who walks through our doors.
During her tour, Lynne was also amazed by our clinic rooms, especially the sexual health drop-in clinic that runs three times a week. Plus, our cosy counseling rooms, private meeting spaces, and the wealth of information we provide caught her eye. She was blown away by the expertise of our Youth Workers who are always ready to help.
But the real stars of the day were the young people who came to meet Lynne. They shared their personal stories about how INFO has helped them, whether through one service or many. One young person even said, “I was a hermit before, I didn’t leave the house before I got help from INFO.” Another added how meeting the Cabinet Secretary “felt like a great opportunity to be listened to“
Lynne’s visit was a big deal for us – it was a chance to show off the amazing work INFO does for Wrexham’s young people. We’re super proud of our team and the difference they make every day.
INFO is open Monday to Friday from 11:30 am, so if you ever need us, feel free to drop in, give us a call on 01978 295600, or email us at infoshop@wrexham.gov.uk. We’re here for you!
