May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month (it should be every day really) but it gives us all a chance to open up conversations, challenge stigma, and remind each other that no one in Wrexham has to struggle on their own.  You might be feeling a bit overwhelmed, anxious, low, or just not quite yourself.  However you’re feeling, your experiences are valid and talking about them is one of the strongest things you can do.

Wrexham has a great community spirit, and we all look out for each other, there’s a real sense here that people care, but even in a supportive community, it can still feel hard to speak up.  You might be scared about being judged, or you think your problems aren’t “that bad” but if something is affecting you, it’s important to talk it over. It’s hard to say, “I’m not okay,” but those words can be the start of feeling better. Opening up doesn’t mean you have all the answers, it just means you’re giving yourself a chance to be listened to and supported.

If you’re in Wrexham and not sure where to go for help, the INFO Shop is a great place to start. It’s a welcoming, youth-friendly space where you can find advice, guidance, and staff who genuinely want to help you.

Here are some of the services based there:

  • Youth Workers – People who understand the challenges young people face and can offer support or a chat when you need it.
  • Outside In Counselling Service – Access to trained counsellors who provide a safe, confidential space to talk about whatever’s on your mind.
  • Sexual Health and Wellbeing Advice – Free contraception up until your 26th birthday and advice to help you feel more informed and in control, we have a Nurse led clinic on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30pm.  We also have youth worker led sexual health services Monday to Friday from 11:30am.
  • Housing and Welfare Advice – Practical support if your mental health is being affected by issues like housing or finances.
  • Drop-in Sessions – you don’t need an appointment, the INFO Shop offers opportunities to pop in and talk to someone Monday to Friday from 11:30am.

Mental health struggles can feel isolating, but there are people in Wrexham who care and want to listen. Reaching out to a friend, a family member, or a service like the INFO Shop could help.

Look out for each other this Mental Health Awareness Month. Check in on your mates. Be a nice human being, and if you’re struggling, you know where we are!
